The Archaeological Museum of Iraklio
is situated at the north-east corner of Liberty Square, in the city centre.
It is one of the most important and richest museums in Greece housing
finds mainly inherited from the Minoan Civilisation. Apart from the Minoan
period, the visitor can also admire treasures from the Classical,
Hellenistic and Roman times. The most important finds exhibited there are:
the discus of Faestos, elegant golden jewellery, household items , weapons,
as well as collections of pottery and enormous minoan pots. Finally, the
minoan murals contained in the collection of the museum are really
remarkable.
